Bespoke Furniture
In times gone by, all furniture was handmade to order by master craftsmen. It is still possible to find handmade furniture produced by experts, although flat-pack furniture and the rise of IKEA have reduced many households to buying identikit furniture. While these kits might be cheap, they are depressingly homogenous, and leave the living room feeling a little more like a showroom than part of your home.
Ordering bespoke furniture might not be as cheap, but if you’re investing in furniture for your house then it is worth considering. Of course, it depends on how long you intend to live where you live. If you are renting unfurnished accommodation, perhaps bespoke furniture isn’t the way to go. But if you own your own home, or have just moved to an area and can envisage, say starting a family where you live, then putting in the extra little effort to get your home just the way you want it will help you settle in faster, and remind you that your new house is yours.
Another benefit to bespoke furniture is the longevity of it. If you find the right company to make what you want, you may never need to replace that piece again. Unlike the identikit flatpack offerings from large scale furnishing stores, bespoke furniture pieces can last you a lifetime, and can make treasured heirlooms for your children and grandchildren.
